Woodlands Day 3
What a fabulous day to make the journey to Wales to see for myself what the children were doing! They were very cheery when I arrived just before 9.00am and all looked reasonably clean and very well-fed! I had a look round the girl’s rooms – impressively tidy! – and then it was all systems go to get ready for the day. One group were off canoeing which had been a huge hit the day before with another group and I stayed with Mrs Jacob’s group who were doing the high-line course and the climbing wall in the grounds. We were all kitted out in the right gear with our turtles on our heads and the children were great at helping each other out with the buckles and belts. Once we got up onto the high ropes they were amazing – it’s very high! Everyone had a go, though, and the children again really encouraged each other and helped each other to find footholds, reminding their group to hook onto the right Dorito before they moved on and waiting patiently for their turn. There were one or two wobbles up there – really, it’s very high! – but after some gentle coaxing they just got over the wobbly moment and made it to the end – I was very proud! I didn’t hang around for the climbing wall – we were a bit slow on the ropes! – but I’ve heard they had a fantastic afternoon and that the canoeing group had a really good day. It’s a fabulous place and they are definitely having a fabulous time.
