Home Learning

Learning tasks are set through our online learning platform Study Ladder for KS2 (KS1 home learning is set in home learning books). Each Monday new assignments are uploaded to individual's accounts. Activities should be completed by the following Monday, in order for class teachers to follow-up and support any children as necessary.

Reading is the priority in home learning. We recommend that children read in KS2 read five times per week and will provide pupils with an appropriate reading book for their reading ability. For more advice on reading at home with children, please click here. Your child will also be provided with a reading record for recording home reading.

Reading Books(EYFS and KS1)

At Badgemore, phonics is taught using the structure of our systematic synthetic programme, 'Little Wandle'. This comprehensive programme provides a multisensory approach, using letter frames, flash cards, phonic games and listening activities.

Phonics is taught on a daily basis in class. In addition to this, each child will be part of a 'practice reading group' which meets three times a week to introduce them to their Reading Scheme Book. This book will go home at the end of the week, along with a library book, and children will read it three times at home with the support of an adult. There is guidance at the front of each book to support reading practice. Reading Folders, including books and reading records, need to be brought to school on a daily basis.

Support for parents can be found here.

Accelerated Reader (KS2)

At Badgemore, we use the online portal Accelerated Reader (AR) to maintain and manage pupils independent reading practice and comprehension through mini quizzes. Pupils select and read books within their personal band (ZPD), and once they finish each book, they can log onto AR to take the quiz. All of their progress will then be logged on the platform. You can access AR here, Accelerated Reader, and pupils login details and passwords are available on your Arbor Parent Portal.

If you do not have access to a suitable device to enable children to complete the online activities, please speak to your child's class teacher. Home learning Club is available free of charge for all pupils from Year 2 up. Home Learning Club is run on Tuesday from 3:15 - 4:15. Please book this in advance.
