Intent
At Badgemore our curriculum not only meets, but enhances the EYFS framework and NC requirements. We encourage our children:
- To be respectful of themselves, our school, the wider community and our environment.
- To build resilience by learning from mistakes and persevering to develop understanding.
- To become courageous through thinking creatively and challenging themselves.
It is cohesively planned to ensure our learners develop a progression of skills and knowledge in all subjects. Planning reflects a commitment to equality and prepares pupils for life in a diverse society.
We have designed it to inspire our pupils to be critical thinkers and curious learners who can work collaboratively and independently.
We firmly believe that everyone is entitled to an ambitious curriculum, that is adaptable to meet the needs of all learners, to experience success and achieve their potential.
Implementation
Our curriculum is delivered through subject specific schemes of work, designed around our core values, they map out the relevant knowledge and progress of skills in each subject from EYFS to Year 6.
Key strategies we use at Badgemore across all our subjects include: spaced repetition, mastery, subject specific vocabulary explicitly taught, making curriculum links, retrieval practice and presenting our work in a variety of ways, use of IT, problem solving, targeted questioning, text drivers and pre-learning.
Impact
We use formative assessments through targeted questioning, observations, marking and knowledge retrieval exercises, information in books, discussions with pupils and staff, short quizzes all of this provides individual assessment information and informs future planning. Summative assessments take place three times a year in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and maths, in addition to statutory testing. Our impact is quality assured through external support and moderation.
We aim for our pupils to leave Badgemore as respectful, resilient and courageous members of society, with a secure academic understanding and equipped with the skills they need for the future. We are committed to our children leaving with an understanding of how to be culturally aware and socially and morally responsible.
We aspire for our pupils to be healthy, happy safe with high ambitions for their future and a lifelong love of learning.
