In Cedar Class this term, we are exploring Africa and in particular African masks.
We wanted to really understand how people originally made their masks, so we attempted to make our own masks without any modern tools and only using equipment we found outside. Some of us started this task spotting all the obstacles and it took really resilience to discover how we could work make anything that would look like an ‘African Mask’.
Look at our determination and the progress we have made so far (further crafting will continue next week):
- Imogen finding the wood for the mask
- Using friction to shape the masl
- The boys explore ways to shape their wood
- Flint used to drill holes through the wood
- Veer is proud of his perfectly round hole
- Mini masks sanded down and ready for more details
