This term, Maple Class have been reading about the elves who helped out the shoe-maker in their class book. To learn more, the children visited our local shoe-maker in town to learn more about this challenging job.
The children asked questions about mending shoes. We found out that the materials used are mostly leather or rubber and the children had an opportunity to handle these two materials. We were shown how the shoes can be glue or stapled but the delicate stitching work happens in the back room. We think this might be why there were no elves to be seen in the shop.
We have written recounts of our trip to Timpsons and this week we will be making Elf bread. Hopefully this will tempt them to pay us a visit!
