Laurel

Welcome to Laurel class!

Laurel class is a nurturing, welcoming class with the aim of facilitating a smooth transition from nursery or pre-school into the first year of primary school. Within the safe, stimulating, language-rich environment provided both inside and outside, children are encouraged to become curious, independent learners, confident to make their own decisions, but also given time to evaluate their actions and choices.

Staff work closely with families and each other.  Through sensitive listening, close observation and reflection they get to know the children really well. In this way each individual’s learning needs can be provided for through small group work, child-initiated activities and spontaneous play. We focus on ensuring that children are challenged to achieve their maximum potential by providing them with the tools to explore, create, question and investigate.

A Successful Plastic-Free Lunch Day

We made a difference to our environment- we had no waste going to the landfill today! Thank you for all your efforts As part of our topic, ‘Can We Make A Difference?’ we held a Plastic-Free Lunch Day today. A plastic-free lunch is a lunchbox where no plastic has been used to wrap the food. We suggest that a lunchbox with compartments or greaseproof paper is used instead. Update: The benefits to a plastic-free lunchbox is a reduction in the amount of waste sent to the landfill. Plastic takes up to 1,000 years to decompose. Each child will...

Can We Make A Difference? Food Waste

The children asked if there could be a food waste bin in the hall as we throw away lots and lots of food into the general waste every single day! Our lovely Mrs Casserley (Bursar Extraordinaire) has responded to the children with: “I have asked Grundon to prepare documentation for a weekly food waste collection.  The cost will be £7.75 per week which works out cheaper than the surcharge we are currently paying for overweight waste bin.  Pupils will need to scrape their food into a specific food waste only bin in the hall and the...

Yesterday, the Badgemore children cycled, scootered, roller bladed and ran around the beautiful school grounds to raise money for the charity PIP. For the past five years Badgemore has taken part in PIP’s local mountain bike challenge. Our governor, Bill Feeney is the director of PIP, said “It is great to see Badgemore pupils being active and we’re grateful for the money that they raised for the event.
