Curriculum & Teaching
We aim to ensure that children have a broad and balanced curriculum.
Our staff are committed to ensuring individual student success. Our children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and study skills are cultivated. We aim to develop enquiring minds, whilst giving our students the confidence to embrace learning and life.
The curriculum is carefully structured to develop links between English, Mathematics, Science and ICT with plenty of opportunities to develop skills in the Arts, humanities and sports as well as team work and leadership.
Assessment
We report formally to parents through parent
meetings and end of year reports.
We encourage informal contact with teachers as necessary, and formal meetings can always be arranged with any
member of staff.
Children from year 2 onwards undertake end
of year tests in English and Maths. Year 6 children also do Science tests. We strongly believe that
confident pupils, living full lives with plenty of variety and
lots to talk about, are more likely to achieve excellent
results in formal examinations.
Special Educational Needs (SEN)
We regularly review pupils’ progress. If
teachers identify a particular need for a child then
individual targets are devised. We identify strategies to support children, decide
how this will be monitored, and record information on an individual education plan. This is discussed in detail with parents/carers and children.
Admission arrangements do not
discriminate against any pupils. To make sure that all
pupils are treated fairly, a detailed access plan has been
written following Oxfordshire guidelines. In addition, we have a Disabled Access Policy. Please ask if you would like further details.
Gifted and Talented (SEN)
At Badgemore we are keen to ensure that every child achieves their full potential. We use a range of strategies to identify more able children. The identification process is ongoing and begins when the child joins our school, and involves staff, pupils, parents and carers.
Gifted and Talented pupils are listed on a register and their progress is monitored to ensure they achieve their true potential. Placing a child on the register will be done so in consultation with parents.
We provide suitably differentiated and challenging lessons and activities to ensure all children make good progress.
