Resilience

Acorn Class

Welcome to Acorn class!

Acorn class is a nurturing, welcoming class with the aim of facilitating a smooth transition from nursery or pre-school into the first year of primary school. Within the safe, stimulating, language-rich environment provided both inside and outside, children are encouraged to become curious, independent learners, confident to make their own decisions, but also given time to evaluate their actions and choices.

Staff work closely with families and each other.  Through sensitive listening, close observation and reflection they get to know the children really well. In this way each individual’s learning needs can be provided for through small group work, child-initiated activities and spontaneous play. We focus on ensuring that children are challenged to achieve their maximum potential by providing them with the tools to explore, create, question and investigate.

Choir Delight at the Over 60’s Club

Being a member of Over 60s Club in Henley has lots of benefits particularly at Christmas time with members being invited to lots of Christmas events. This week at the club, members were treated to a Christmas recital by Badgemore School choir. The children sang Christmas carols and songs which included Away in Manager, Silent Night, Christmas Calypso, Frosty the Snowman and Jingle Bells and the audience were encouraged to sing along too. A Successful Plastic-Free Lunch Day

We made a difference to our environment- we had no waste going to the landfill today! Thank you for all your efforts As part of our topic, ‘Can We Make A Difference?’ we held a Plastic-Free Lunch Day today. A plastic-free lunch is a lunchbox where no plastic has been used to wrap the food. We suggest that a lunchbox with compartments or greaseproof paper is used instead. Update: The benefits to a plastic-free lunchbox is a reduction in the amount of waste sent to the landfill. Plastic takes up to 1,000 years to decompose. Each child will...

Can We Make A Difference? Food Waste

The children asked if there could be a food waste bin in the hall as we throw away lots and lots of food into the general waste every single day! Our lovely Mrs Casserley (Bursar Extraordinaire) has responded to the children with: “I have asked Grundon to prepare documentation for a weekly food waste collection.  The cost will be £7.75 per week which works out cheaper than the surcharge we are currently paying for overweight waste bin.  Pupils will need to scrape their food into a specific food waste only bin in the hall and the...

Children Support PIP Charity

Yesterday, the Badgemore children cycled, scootered, roller bladed and ran around the beautiful school grounds to raise money for the charity PIP. For the past five years Badgemore has taken part in PIP’s local mountain bike challenge. Our governor, Bill Feeney is the director of PIP, said “It is great to see Badgemore pupils being active and we’re grateful for the money that they raised for the event. Badgemore and PIP have a lot in common: both being small grass root organisations which focus on individual support and...

A Splashing Open Day

Laurel class had a fantastic day where they were able to talk to new parents to show and explain their learning. We investigated bubble mix, testing different ways to make bubbles. Then we thought about the ingredients that might be used in bubble mix and tried to make our own. We discovered that adding more glycerine made stronger bubbles that lasted longer. Our topic is investigating Asia. We learnt about the Moon Festival and made two giant dragons. We thought about how we could improve our design and added glue to our paint so that we...

Pipping and hatching

Over the past two days, we have seen some incredible changes in our incubator. The eggs have slowly been pipped and chickens have started to hatch. We now have eight beautiful baby chicks, who are all happy and healthy. Six boys and two girls. You can tell who the boys are because their feathers are more yellow than the girls. The females are more of a browny orange colour. We are still keeping a careful eye on two of our unhatched eggs so… watch this space! Building up his strength Chirping around Huddling together...

IMG_4505 On Monday 6th July, ten chicken eggs were delivered to school and we were all very excited. To begin with, the eggs were perfectly still and nothing seemed to be happening. We had to keep the eggs in an incubator to keep them warm, just like it would be in their natural habitat – under mother hen’s bottom. Excitedly, we all watched the incubator and, throughout the day, things started to happen. We saw cracks emerge and, when we listened carefully, we heard cheeping and chirping from inside the shells. It was incredible....
