Welcome to Acorn class!
Acorn class is a nurturing, welcoming class with the aim of facilitating a smooth transition from nursery or pre-school into the first year of primary school. Within the safe, stimulating, language-rich environment provided both inside and outside, children are encouraged to become curious, independent learners, confident to make their own decisions, but also given time to evaluate their actions and choices.
Staff work closely with families and each other. Through sensitive listening, close observation and reflection they get to know the children really well. In this way each individual’s learning needs can be provided for through small group work, child-initiated activities and spontaneous play. We focus on ensuring that children are challenged to achieve their maximum potential by providing them with the tools to explore, create, question and investigate.

Making maths fun … ‘This is the best maths lesson EVER!’ ‘Can we do maths all day?’ – just two of the comments from the children during our fabulous maths enrichment morning last week, organised by our maths lead Tim Hoskins. Parents joined us for the first hour, playing various maths games with their children including Monopoly (using and calculating with money) and Battleships (positional language). Chess and draughts were also popular, helping to develop critical thinking skills – by the end of...
Today was Badgemore’s Science Day and we all had a great time immersing ourselves in a variety of scientific tasks. We were joined by Ian from Science Oxford who conducted two shows and two workshops throughout the day. Focuses included: animals and habitats; electricity; magnetism; chemical reactions and the magic of science. Below are some snap shots from our superb day of science....
Over the past two days, we have seen some incredible changes in our incubator. The eggs have slowly been pipped and chickens have started to hatch. We now have eight beautiful baby chicks, who are all happy and healthy. Six boys and two girls. You can tell who the boys are because their feathers are more yellow than the girls. The females are more of a browny orange colour. We are still keeping a careful eye on two of our unhatched eggs so… watch this space! Building up his strength Chirping around Huddling together...
IMG_4505 On Monday 6th July, ten chicken eggs were delivered to school and we were all very excited. To begin with, the eggs were perfectly still and nothing seemed to be happening. We had to keep the eggs in an incubator to keep them warm, just like it would be in their natural habitat – under mother hen’s bottom. Excitedly, we all watched the incubator and, throughout the day, things started to happen. We saw cracks emerge and, when we listened carefully, we heard cheeping and chirping from inside the shells. It was incredible....
Thank you for visiting! For the next two weeks, we will be looking at the story of the Gingerbread Man. We’ll be learning the story, discussing the characters, cooking gingerbread men and decorating our Story Corner to fit with the theme. Keep checking back for some photos.
